James Broke A Record!

Tonight when James Howard got out of class he had some very good news to give me! Tonight they had a test on Radar 1, (which isn't his favorite). Before they started, the instructor made a deal with them. He said if anyone in the class broke the record and made over a 98 on the test, he would give out a Bravo Zulu, or BZ as the guys call them.

So first you are probably asking what a Bravo Zulu is? I'll explain. This is a naval signal, conveyed by flaghoist or voice radio, meaning "well done"; it has also passed into the spoken and written vocabulary. "Bravo Zulu" actually comes from the Allied Naval Signal Book, an international naval signal code adopted after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created in 1949. In simpler terms, after WWII all the Navies realized it was hard to communicate wtih each other, they all needed a "boat" language. Thus, Bravo Zulu became Well Done! For James, 3 Bravo Zulus means he gets to take a duty day off and we love that in our house!

Back to the good news. So, they all began their test knowing someone had to make over a 98 to get the BZ. I'm sure you have figured out the good news, but not only did James break the record, he got a perfect 100 on the test! How incredible is that? He was very excited, and I of course am very proud. He has duty today so unfortunately I won't see him until tomorrow night to celebrate, but he is VERY happy!

He only has seven tests left and then he will be done with Electronics Technician Apprentice School! He's still clutching that number one spot in the class verrrrrry tightly, and from his determination with this recent material, I don't think anyone will have the pleasure of taking it from him :) Hooyah!!
